rlg: (books ... mmm)
Originally, I'd planned on taking the train down, but I ended up sharing transport with friends and we could all afford to go. Going down we stopped at Starbucks for breakfast, and we got lost trying to get to the hotel ... we didn't see the hotel until after the exit to get there. We got there after the first set of classes had begun.

I tried to get into the mentor/student roundtable, but the door had gotten locked by the time I got there. A pity, I'm outside the formal Don/Cadet structure, and I'm curious about it, and I will learn from anyone willing to teach me, and I will teach anyone who asks.

I went to Don Alain Longship's class on getting into your opponent's head and got some tips, and ended the day with (the legendary) Don Tivar's class on combat anatomy. I got to try out the Machine, and was called a horde thug after I used 9 lbs of pressure to punch through the rawhide ... the only other woman there used 8 lbs of pressure, for some reason, the men tended to get through with less of an effort.

The schedule seemed to alternate between between "omigod too many classes I want to take" and "enh ... time to go shopping/fight." Being able to switch from the rapier side to the costuming side was fun, I am curious about both sides, and the class on Mongolian stitches was fun, even if the teacher felt she was inadequate to the task (she wasn't, the subject was well covered, my only whine dealt with "not enough info in the handout!!")

I brought truffles (dark chocolate, an irish whisky called "The Knot" with silver sugar) for the royal travel fund, 3/4 pound went for $20, not the most expensive thing there, a hand made rosary of jet went much higher, and there were some "viking bling" necklaces that were lovely. I like to think that the "free samples" to drum up interest helped boost the price.

I wish I'd been able to stay for the whole weekend, there were some sunday classes looked very interesting, and I ran into a horde bro I wish I'd had more social time for. Hopefully the disk of "kwar/kwcs proceedings/handhouts" will have enough information, and there's always email.

I haven't checked out the disk yet. More on that later, if I remember.
