delayed post, it's really last night
Nov. 2nd, 2007 07:41 amLovely.
My desktop computer is hors de combat (out of commission), so he has taken over my laptop. End result? On the first day of NaNoWriMo I am stuck using a 10 year old laptop with no broadband capability (the pc card slot was broken when Frank dropped it when it didn’t have a case.), a broken screen hinge (same reason), no battery life (it's 10 years old, what do you expect) and Windows 98. I am not happy.
At least RoughDraft works, and I used this laptop last year. It didn't have a battery then, and I survived. I will survive this too.
I took the desktop to work, and got a diagnosis from
m_streight and
baronan of a booched hard drive (a bad cluster, a bad hive file, or a corrupted file). They recommended re-installing the software, but didn't have a loaner disk. So I started trying to find a computer place, since the last place I used went bankrupt.
The first had a 2-3 week backlog. Thank you but no thank you.
The second closed at 5:00 (when I get out of work), free diagnosis, and opened at 8:30. Thank you let me keep looking.
The third claimed that they were open until 9:00 and they had a store in the mall. The address I had for them in the phone book they no longer used. They'd just changed their location. I had a winner.
At least I did until I got to the mall. They have a kiosk in the mall. They have an unstaffed kiosk in the mall. They have an empty kiosk in the mall.
I drove home by way of the second computer place, to make sure that I could find it in the morning.
I think it's wise of me to avoid fencing tonight, despite the chance to fence
weezeld. I'd probably hurt someone.
